'Lucky' Green go five in a row

Leverstock Green 4

Hertford Town 0

LUCK has played a big part in taking Leverstock Green to just five points off the top.

They have now won five MSSML Premier Division games on the spin and have gone 12 games unbeaten, but fortune has been in his side's favour, says boss Steve Heath.

"We have had a bit of luck like everybody does" he said.

"But one thing I have to say about the players is they have worked so hard - not just on the pitch but in training too.

"Maybe they are starting to get the luck they deserve."

Heath was speaking after seeing his side demolish Hertford Town 4-0 on Saturday.

And still the boss rued Green's missed chances, saying they could have won 8-0 had they finished off their moves. Dale Sears took his tally to nine for the season when he put Green ahead in the sixth minute.

And his strike was added to just three minutes before the break when Gary Connolly, Richard Harvey and Mark Welling combined for a move which ended with Connolly letting fly from 25 yards to net for the third game in a row.

Simon Conway bundled the ball in for three with an hour gone and Lee Johnson nodded in a Welling cross two minutes later to wrap things up.

Levy were against high-flying Aylesbury as The Gazette went to press, and face another tough task as they go to Harefield United on Saturday.

But Green, who were at last awarded their November Team of the Month trophy on Saturday, are in the kind of form to give any Premier Division side a tough game.
