Lewis Bull Trophy to be played in honour of boy with half a brain
Two teams will battle it out for a trophy in the name of a boy who had half his brain disconnected.
It is hoped Lewis Bull, who suffered with the life-threatening disease Rasmussen's Encephalitis, will lead out Hemel Hempstead Town U13s and St Albans Boreal U13s in the first ever Lewis Bull Trophy match on Friday, October 1.
The game, at Hemel Town's Vauxhall Road ground, will be played under floodlights and will be a 'once in a lifetime experience' for the players.
The game will raise money for Lewis's family and Great Ormond Street Hospital who performed the operation on the 12-year-old back in the spring.
The event, which it is hoped will become an annual fixture, has all come about thanks to two old friends of Lewis's dad John.
Leo Glynn and Andy Young, who are heavily involved with the Hemel and St Albans sides respectively, played with John in the successful White Horse Thunderbirds during the 80s.
"It all seemed to fall into place," said Leo, whose son Luke plays for Hemel U13s.
"We were thinking about the lad and about what he and his parents have been through, and thought we should raise some money for them and for charity."
Entry is 2 on the night.
Money will also be raised at a raffle which has prizes including an Arsenal shirt signed by Robin van Persie.
