Katy's Dunne it again
Katy Dunne has proved herself to be the best tennis player of her age in the country.
The 15 year old star won the AEGON British Junior National Championships 16&Us, a tournament she dubbed 'the biggest event of the year'.
She came back from losing the first set of her final match to storm to victory and earn the biggest win of her career to date 0-6 7-5 6-1 .
"It's the biggest event of the year so to win it is pretty great," said Katy, who lives in Flaunden.
"It's been a great week for me and I'm very happy with the way I have played."
The up-and-coming star, who has a World 18&U ITF rank of 220, said she had to bide her time in the final against 'unbelievable' opponent Georgia Craven, from Leeds.
When the moment was right she struck and never looked back.
"She literally played the perfect set," said Katy, who was the number one seed for the tournament.
"I had to really wait with her for her to bring down her level - there was no way she was going to be able to keep that up for two sets.
"I waited her for drop and she did and I took my chance.
"I just had to fight hard and stay consistent."
Katy won the tournament, which took place in Bournemouth, after five hard-fought matches over the course of last week, culminating in Sunday's win.
The powerhouse, who was knocked out of Wimbledon this year after gaining a wildcard entry into the 16&U event, puts most of her time and energy into playing tournaments abroad.
After taking a well-earned 10-day break in Cornwall, she will begin preparation for the ITF Osaka Mayors Cup in Japan at the end of October.
There she will get a chance to prove herself against the world's best young 18&U players.
"I just want the experience and to play against the top players," aded Katy, who plays at Halton Tennis Centre.
"To win it would be a massive bonus!"
