Berkhamsted win keeps the ball rolling

James Barron scored four goals for Berkhamsted against Bishop's Stortford

The Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead Hockey Club men’s first team picked up where they left off last week as they dispatched a ten-man Bishop’s Stortford third XI 7-2.

Berko never looked in any danger and some good hockey in the final third of the pitch led to a number of well-worked team goals on the counter-attack.

James Barron finished the game with four goals to his name.

Elsewhere, Berkhamsted ladies’ first team continued their unbeaten start to the season with a gutsy performance against top of the table Saffron Walden.

The game ended in a goalless draw, with defender Kate Hudson voted as player of the match.

It was not such good news for the men’s second team as they were beaten 5-1 by Blueharts, despite a goal from Oli Bowman.

The men’s third XI, meanwhile, comprehensively saw off Broxbourne IV 4-2 with two goals each from James Crofton and Dan Pryor, but the fourth team were beaten 3-1 by Hertford. Tim Buckley got the consolation goal for Berko.

The men’s fifth team picked up an impressive 2-0 victory over table-topping Blueharts, while the club’s youngsters took part in the Bedford Tournament.

The Mixed U14 side beat Bedford and St Neots, before drawing with Tring, and eventually finishing in fourth place overall.

The mixed U10 team also competed, picking up one win on the day thanks to a Matty Wood double against St Ives.
