This Girl Can in Herts Week 2016 is aiming to get more women involved in physical activity by offering a vast range of local, female friendly and focused events.
This is the summer version of last October’s hugely successful week where around 2,600 women and girls took part in the 275 sessions that took place.
Of these, 1,100 were new to that activity – taking part in buggy fit, burlesque fitness, squash, sailing and back to netball, to name just a few.
Taking place from Monday , June 6 to Sunday, June 12, This Girl Can in Herts Week 2016 promises to be even bigger and better.
The Herts Sports & Physical Activity Partnership is working with partners to bring together an activity-packed diary of female-friendly activities, sessions and events at local clubs and community venues across the county.
Linking once again to Sport England’s national campaign, sessions will be designed to reduce some of the barriers that prevent women and girls from being active; for example, the fear of judgement, poor body image, low self-esteem, lack of time, or the feeling that they are not good enough.
The week will once again raise the profile of sport for women and girls, highlighting the benefits of being physically active and the vast range of opportunities available in Herts.
The HSP is encouraging local sports clubs and organisations to open up their doors to women and girls during this week by way of female-friendly taster sessions, open days, workshops, courses and competitions.
They can get involved either with something specific for the week’s programme or as part of their weekly schedules.
Jane Parker, Women and Girls Project Officer at HSP is excited about the opportunities that this initiative provides and is keen to hear from anyone who would like to get involved.
She said: “Our week of sport and physical activity back in October was so successful that I am super-excited about repeating the idea with a fresh outdoor and summery feel.
“We know that many of our partners from October are keen to be involved again as well as many new ones so I think the range of activities on offer will be amazing, with something for everyone.”
