Hemel’s Ross hits the slopes in style
A FREESTYLE skier from Hemel is currently competing at The Brits Music & Winter Festival in Switzerland.
19-year-old Ross Welch, from Neptune Drive, is sponsored by The Snow Centre and works as a rental technician in his spare time.
It is at Hemel slope where the teenager developed his love for the sport.
He is at the LAAX resort along with the UK’s finest skiers and snowboarders for the seven-day festival.
The event, which began on Sunday, features competitions involving some of the highest honours in the British freestyle snowsports calendar.
Ross - from the Atomic UK Freeski team - is competing in the SlopeStyle event, a mix of rails and jumps.
The Hemel skier is also set to brave a 65 foot jump in an attempt to perform the most ambitious trick in the Big Air event.
Ross, said: “For me the Brits is all about having fun and meeting the fantastic people involved in the freeski scene.
“Last year was my first year at the competition and I loved every minute of it.”
As well as working and training at The Snow Centre, Ross is collaborating with the centre’s instructors to raise awareness of snowsports amongst local schools.
