Hemel at the double
Hemel Hempstead under 15s stormed to victory in the County Cup final on Saturday, and followed it with a fine win in the first round of the National Cup.
The team took on opposition in the form of Hertford, with Hemel stepping in to bat first.
Top-scorers were Jamie Makower with 46 and Jay O'Nien who racked up 33 runs, helping Hemel to 120 for 8 after their allotted overs.
The Hertford openers hit 54 runs between them to get their side off to a great start, but spectacular catches from Paul Mackie and Luke O'Nien removed the pair, proving that catches really do win matches.
Scott Gungadoo was the top bowler for Hemel with 3-14, helping to dismiss Hertford for 101, 19 runs short of the total needed.
The win capped an undefeated nine-game run in the competition for Andy Turbutt's side.
"Scores of 195 against Boxmoor, 196 against Tring Park and 200 against Potten End all in 20 overs were testament to the batting strength," Andy said.
"All our bowlers have taken wickets and bowled with great accuracy. We have also excelled in the field with some exceptional catches, including 2 very special ones in the final."
Meanwhile, in the National Cup, Hemel were representing Hertfordshire and beat strong opponents in the form of Luton Town and Indians, who were representing Bedfordshire.
The home side again batted first, with 24 runs coming from Jamie Makower and 51 from Jake Olley, putting Hemel on their way to 128 all out.
Luton's reply was nipped in the bud by Hemel's opening bowlers—Paul Mackie (3-13) and Jay O'Nien (2-12). S Mohammed lifted the innings with his 46 but Luton were always chasing the game.
The under 15s have a chance to really make it a week to remember when they take on Potten End in the final of the Peter Wright Trophy this Friday.
"Potten End have some very talented players and are dangerous if they are allowed to get into the runs and wickets," Andy admitted.
"Hemel will be without several players who are cup-tied but I am hopeful that our strength in depth will be sufficient to add to the silverware this season."
The game will take place from 6pm, and anybody is invited to come along to Hemel Hempstead's ground to watch.
