Grace lands double bowls crown
Bowlers from Hemel Hempstead Bowls Club travelled to Bournemouth last week for a series of matches.
A total of 70 members, including 60 bowlers, went on tour, during which HHBC took on a number of local sides, losing some and winning others.
Before heading off, the club secured a place in the next round of the Double Rink competition with a narrow victory over Oakhill.
Finishing just two shots ahead, it Hemel won it 80-78 too bok their place in the next round on July 23.
Two days after the tour's return then The Clive Richardson Trophy Gala was held at the club.
Clive's wife Grace Richardson had a particulalry memorable day, making up the winning team alongside Jackie Luff, Robin James and Bob Howell, as well as herself taking the Spider competition.
Second place went to Alan Thornley, George W Smith, Ted Tarby and Sylvia Bellett while Rita Ient, Ray Neaves, Geoff Wheatley and Grace Salmon were third.
Kitcheners have had a successful week.
Last Monday's Dacorum Shield match with local rivals Potten End was a win for Kitcheners in the mixed and the ladies' rinks while PE took the men's. It was 4-1 to Kitcheners overall.
Thursday saw them go on to beat Mill End by just one shot in the Watford and District Ray Cup while the ladies won their Watford & Dirstict League match against Cassio Ladies 17-24.
Chris Phipps, Jan Scattergood, Yvonne Owens and Enid Rance were top rink.
In the county competitions Roy Phipps, Steve Delderfield, Michael Connell and Jack Hubert reached the neutral green stage of the Fours.
Roy, Steve, and Michael also made it through to the third round of the Watford & District Triples.
On Saturday Kitcheners were away to Pavilion Bowls Club, Oxhey, in a 4 mixed triples match, which they lost 68 to 74.
On Sunday they were back to winning ways with an 88-59 defeat of Potten End, highest rink Steve Delderfield, Jan Perry, Kate Jenkyns and Harry Benson.
A better result for PE saw them progress to the third round of the Ray Cup beating a team from Abbots Langley 77-48.
They also have a team in the third round of the district 4s after a win over Herts 22-12.
The Ladies had an exciting and spectacular win in their fourth round match against Shire Park in the Top Club (10), while Wednesday's men's match against Tring was a 91-56 win for the 'Enders.
Top rink was Mike Mathers, John Hart, Les Maton and George Hogg.
Friday's ladies triples match at Chesham was a 52-41 win, Sandra Gomm, Sheila Howling and Linda Cleator top rink, and the men finished off a successful by thrashing Wardown Park 116-42 on Saturday.
Top Rink was John Conroy, Alan Jones, Arthur Page and Dave Burfot.
Berkhamsted won their friendly match against Chesham thanks to an excellent top rink from Lyle Scott-Darling, Jean Greenfield, Eric Millar and Beryl Parsons.
The ladies defeated Bushey in both their League and friendly match, while wins over a team from Owls and their own club takes Carole Dunn and Lesley Brown to the fourth round of the Ladies County Pairs Competition.
Anne Furlong and Jackie Cormack, with wins against Herts Club and Bushey have progressed to the out of zone round of the County Pairs Competition.
The men have won their second round of the Ray Cup defeating Bovingdon by 79 - 42 shots, while the friendly match against Borehamwood on Saturday was another good win thanks to a fantastic top rink with a 24-shot margin from Linda Hiskey, Paul Mackness and John Webb.
Despite a top rink from Janet Scott-Darling, Derek Saunders and John Webb the journey to Aylesbury resulted in defeat in the friendly against Hazells on Sunday.
