HEMEL Town turned around their miserable start to the New Year with two wins in as many days.
The Tudors hadn’t got off to the best of starts following a 4-0 home defeat by St Albans on Bank Holiday Monday.
But the team’s blue Monday was kicked into touch by Saturday, and they were flying high after beating Swindon Supermarine 3-1.
The Tudors carried on their winning form with another 3-1 victory over Beaconsfield SYCOB in the third round of the Red Insure Cup on Monday night.
Boss Tommy Widdrington told the Gazette he had read the riot act to his players on Thursday and it seems to have had an effect.
He said: “To win was really pleasing. The fact that we were behind before winning means they up for the battle.
“A few harsh words were said at training last Thursday and the players are under no illusions.
“It’s always a tough period after Christmas and in the last six games we have won three so the form of the team has been fine, but we have to put back-to-back wins together in the league.
“I’m not panicking. Everyone is very understanding but I feel one or two areas could be improved.
“This club has been used to losing games and I have had to change that mentality.
“The way we have to look at it is there are 18 cup finals left to play.”
Asked if he thought the two victories meant the club was turning a corner, Widdrington said: “There are no corners to be turned –it’s a long straight marathon.”
Tudors’ next matches are both league games –away to Stourbridge on Saturday, followed by a home tie against Evesham United next Tuesday.
