Tring Athletic made it two wins over London Colney on consecutive Saturdays as they booked their place in the third round of the Dudley Latham Memorial Cup.

Having beaten Colney in the league seven days previously, Tring produced a top second half display to make it a league and cup double.

Athletic were the first side to threaten, with Jack Thomson seeing shot saved in the eighth minute, before volleying over the bar from the edge of the penalty area.

The two teams went in at half-time level, but Athletic broke the deadlock in the 51st minute. Following some good interpassing between Kay Brown and Tony Fields, the ball was played into the Colney area and deflected in off a defender’s leg.

Athletic began to dominate, and increased their lead in the 59th minute when Tony Fields dispatched a penalty after a foul on Brown.

With Athletic on top, they were duly rewarded with a third goal in the 63rd minute. A half-cleared corner fell to Jack Thomson, and his first-time cross was headed home by Brown to make it 3-0.

Colney bagged a consolation goal from the penalty spot in stoppage time, but it is Tring who go forward to the next round.
