Ten-man Comrades dig deep to get the better of Stotfold

The breakthrough came on the half hour mark when skipper James Baldry released Frankie Jowle, and Alex Campana was on hand to connect with the cross and shoot himself to joint top of the club scoring charts.

The lead only lasted 10 minutes, however, as Paul Morris galloped forward from left back and smacked the ball into the net from 20 yards out.

One of many strange offside decisions from a persistently poorly positioned official stopped Berko getting in front at half-time, with Campana netting, only to see it disallowed.

In the second half, the same official missed a foul on Dan Edwards, but spotted the retaliation from 70 yards away, so Berko were reduced to 10 men.

With quarter of an hour left, the 10 men restored their lead when Tom Carter ventured forward and brought down a good pass before turning inside his man and shooting past Adam Harpur in the home goal.

Elsewhere, Berko’s reserve side doubled their points tally for the season with a 2-1 win at third placed North Greenford United on Tuesday night.

Jack Skinner and Youssef Magdy scored for Berko who went 2-0 up and then Connor Sansom saved a penalty before the home side pulled a goal back.

Fourth placed Berko continue without the suspended Carl Tasker for the rest of the Premier Division season.

They entertain one of the teams above them, Hoddesdon Town, at Broadwater in their last home game on Saturday before concluding with a trip to mid-table Sun Postal Sports on Bank Holiday Monday, kick-off 3pm.

Berko’s final Suburban North game is at Camberley Town on Saturday.

On Sunday Watford Ladies entertain Bristol City at Broadwater in the Women’s Super League, k/o 2pm.
