Tring Athletic 2
The wet weather did not dampen Tring’s spirit as they put in a hard-working performance against a determined Stotfold side to continue their good run of form in the league.
Stewart King returned to the Athletic line-up after missing the last four matches, and the young striker made his presence felt with a brace of goals to take his tally to 10 from 12 games so far this season.
The opening goal came after only six minutes and was instigated by Tony Fields who found King in the area where he was tripped, before ramming home the resulting penalty to put Athletic in front.
Athletic’s advantage lasted only eight minutes, however, with Ricky Baker tapping in the equaliser after Tring keeper Adam Robinson was unable to keep hold of the slippery ball from a viciously swerving shot.
Buoyed by the goal, the home side started to press forward, but Tring looked dangerous on the break and regained the lead in the 38th minute.
Fields again had a big part to play in the goal, turning away from his marker and finding Jack Sunderland, whose cross was turned in by King for his and Athletic’s second goal.
Both teams had chances after half-time, but with no further goals, Tring held on for the three points.
