Sports pay the penalty as cup dreams end

There was knock-out cup action for a number of Dacorum’s West Herts Saturday League representatives at the weekend.

In the Senior Cup, Kings Sports were beaten on 5-4 penalties after a 0-0 score line at 90 minutes and then 1-1 after extra-time.

The Junior Cup saw a 5-1 victory for Hemel Rovers Reserves over JC United, with Asher Alleyne getting a hat-trick and Dave Flack and Curtis Donaldson completing the scoring.

There was disappointment for Gadebridge FC, however, as they were beaten at home by Vicarage Celtic.

Woods Mullan and Marvis Edmunds were on target for Gadebridge but the visitors managed to find the net on four occasions for a 4-2 win.

Elsewhere, Potten End got the better of Bovingdon FC in the Rous Cup as a brace from Dale Jenkins and solo efforts by Dave Boswell and Gavin Beale resulted in a 4-0 win for the Enders.

It was not such good news for Hemel Shooters, however, as they saw their Holloway Trophy hopes ended in a 3-1 defeat by Maple Cross Reserves, despite a goal from Craig Lockley.

In league action, meanwhile, Premier Division side Hemel Rovers coasted to a comfortable 6-2 win at AFC Finchley.

Olly Buckley put in an all-action performance and earned himself a hat-trick, while Paul Hanafan kept up his impressive scoring record with another goal and sub Michael Hoare got his name on the scorers list before Alex McCarthy marked his return from a long-term injury to complete the scoring.

Elsewhere, Division Two outfit Tring Athletic B scored three times thanks to Ashley Obrien (2) and Grant Newman but found Hadley B too strong and slipped to a 4-3 home defeat.

In the bottom division, Gadebridge Reserves came away from Harpenden Rovers A with a 7-5 success and Hemel Rovers had hat-tricks by Rob Jackson and Drew Duggan to thank for a 6-0 home win over Hunton Bridge.
