On Saturday an under-par Corries ground out a 2-0 win courtesy of goals from debutante Olly Butler and Trevor Gibbs; the latter netting his fifth in two games.

After two fabulous high-tempo wins it was a bit of a disappointment, however, as Corries played against 10 men for much of the second half.

Two excellent saves by man of the match Dave Adamson preserved Tring’s lead on a couple of occasions.

Bizarrely, Corries had to travel to Loughton on Tuesday for the return League fixture for a 6.30pm kick-off.

Tring had four players unable to make it due to work commitments and three of the 14 didn’t arrive until after 6pm so Corries were up against it from the start.

They took the lead in the first half through Leo Mullet, and could have extended it through Mullet again.

Slack defending, however, let Loughton in for an equaliser and they began to get on top.

Smethers could have put Tring back in front but Loughton took the lead on 70 minutes with a superb goal.

Corries were on the ropes but applied pressure late on and could have snatched an equaliser. The impressive Stuart Howe lobbed just over the bar and Rob Lear agonisingly drove over from two yards in the 90th minute after good work by West.

After a great start to the season, hopefully this is the wake-up call that Corries need.

In other news, the Reserves won their first league match at Mursley 1-0 with a goal by Rob Woods. Tring were led to victory by captain Charles Martin and have games on Wednesday and Saturday to look forward to.
