Kings conquer Colney to reach Shield final

Colney Heath 2 Kings Langley 5

Kings Langley stormed into the final of the Herts Charity Shield with a five-star performance against Premier Division opponents Colney Heath.

It was hosts Colney who took the lead after 22 minutes when Kings keeper Ross Channer mishandled a corner to allow Steve Barker to score.

Kings hit back one minute later as Craig Lynskey equalised with a 20-yard dipping shot, but the visitors’ elation was short-lived as Ian Cooper restored the Colney lead almost immediately.

In an end-to-end affair it was Kings who struck next as Jimmy Armstrong put Jack Johnson through to beat Colney keeper Tom Blackman, and the provider then beat the offside trap to fire the visitors into the lead.

Far from shutting up shop in the second half, Kings went for the jugular and Steve Noonan and Lynskey tried their luck, before Jack Johnson met Armstrong’s cross with an exquisite mid-air volley for the goal of the match.

As Heath wilted, Armstrong took a through ball from Nathan Pooley to rifle home the defining fifth and seal Kings’ place in the final.

Although Gary Connolly succumbed to a late injury, the standing ovation the young Kings skipper received was a fitting tribute to an immaculate defensive performance.
