Kings are held in an away day stalemate
Cockfosters 0 Kings Langley 0
Having knocked teams off the top of the table in their previous two matches, Kings Langley inflicted the same fate on Cockfosters but this time had to settle for a draw in a gruelling encounter on an extremely heavy pitch.
Kings were quick out of the blocks and Ben Long created space for himself in the second minute, only to see his snap-shot on the turn brilliantly tipped over the bar by 16-year-old Cockfosters keeper Tautin Poniskaitis.
The home side pressed for an opening at the other end but it was Kings’ Adam Hallissey who came closest to breaking the deadlock as his shot was smothered at the foot of the post.
The second half ground on, with the pitch making attempts to play the ball on the ground increasingly difficult.
As the game entered the last five minutes, Ben Long received the ball on the edge of the box and his fierce shot looked to have won the match, but man-of-the-match Poniskaitis produced another flying save to tip it over the crossbar.
It was an unexpected scoreline from the division’s two highest-scoring teams, but with both sides desperate to win in a tight league, a draw came as no surprise.
Kings stay in seventh place in MSSML Division One, but have games in hand on most of the teams above them.
