Hemel Town fired a warning shot to their title rivals as they put Hitchin Town to the sword at Vauxhall Road.
Leading 2-0 at half-time, the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division table-toppers put on a show after the break and smashed home a further six goals to wrap up an emphatic victory.
And Tudors boss Dean Brennan has warned the chasing pack that there is still more to come from his free-scoring side.
“Our form has been a little bit hot and cold but it was a really good victory on Saturday and good to get eight goals because it doesn’t happen very often.
“There is still more to come from us and we’ve got to go away and take confidence from the win.
“We are in a good position but we can’t get carried away – we’ve got to keep our feet on the ground.”
Hemel went into the weekend’s clash on the back of a disappointing defeat to Bideford, but they set about erasing the memories of that loss with a goal from Matt Nolan, and the lead was doubled after 34 minutes when Stephen O’Leary netted from the spot after a trip on Ryan O’Toole.
The Tudors picked up where they left off at the start of the second period and O’Toole made it 3-0 when he slotted home his first goal for the club after 48 minutes.
Hemel were looking dangerous whenever they went forward and Alex Campana and Victor Osubu struck two more quick-fire goals to put the hosts firmly in control.
Hitchin pulled a goal back with a penalty, but that was soon followed by the goal of the game from Dave Pearce who curled his shot into the far corner to make it 6-1.
Pearce then turned provider for Charlie Mpi who added a seventh, before the Canaries made it 7-2 with a goal against the run of play.
There was still time for Hemel to add an eighth, and Mpi duly fired home to cap off an excellent day for the Tudors.
Next up for Town is a clash with Chippenham Town on Saturday, and the Tudors will be keen to build on Saturday’s impressive display.
