Hemel Town saw their winless run stretch to five games as they were beaten 4-2 by Truro City on Tuesday night – further denting their slim hopes of reaching the playoffs.
First half goals from Isaac Vassell, Ryan Brett and Dan Green put Truro 3-1 up at half-time, with the impressive Cody Cooke scoring their fourth 14 minutes from time to seal the win.
Jamie Slabber and James Potton got the goals for Hemel, but in truth they were well beaten by their Cornish hosts.
With Town again forced to field a much-changed side, Truro took the lead in the 16th minute when Matt Jay played a long ball to Vassell on the right, and the striker cut inside before firing home.
But Hemel were back on level terms seven minutes later as captain for the night Slabber gave Truro keeper Martin Rice no chance as he finished with aplomb.
City continued to boss proceedings, though, and in the 29th minute Vassell latched on to another long ball before being felled by Hemel defender Oliver Thorne. Tudors keeper Jamie Butler got his hands to Brett’s resulting penalty, but the ball went in off the post.
Just before half-time, Green latched on to a bad clearance by Butler to make it 3-1 with another fine strike.
Hemel improved in the second half and caused the Truro defence some problems, but it was the home side who wrapped up the win when Vassell surged forward before feeding Cooke who lashed the ball home to make it 4-1.
A late Potton snap shot gave Hemel a consolation, but it was too little too late for Dean Brennan’s men, who host Sutton United on Saturday.
