HEMEL Rovers came agonisingly close to beating holders Park Street in the County Junior Cup, but eventually lost out after extra-time.

After conceding a goal inside five minutes, Rovers slowly edged into the game and were rewarded with a thunderous leveller by Ray Wood just before the break.

The two evenly matched sides looked to be heading for extra-time until Rovers’ Tom Porter managed to get in between three defenders and force the ball into the net with ten minutes to go.

It seemed that would be enough to send Rovers through to the semi-final only, but an 88th minute equaliser took the game into extra-time.

With both teams having chances to snatch victory in the added period, Rovers gave away a penalty with just ten minutes left, but keeper Barry Hills brought off a superb save to keep the hosts in with a chance.

Moments after this, however, the visitors were awarded a free-kick about 35 yards out. A cross was hammered into the box, and the strike flew into the Rovers net to snatch victory for Park Street.

Elsewhere, Kings Sports also went out of the competition, losing 4-0 at home to Greenbury United.

Meanwhile, in the league, Bovingdon gained all the points in a 5-4 home victory over Philippine United.

Harry Woods led the way with a hat-trick, and James Strivens and George Loosely also found the net.

Tring Athletic B thumped Croxley reserves 5-0 with braces from Jack Sunderland and Tom Haynes, and another goal from Rob Fryer.

Hemel Rovers A suffered another defeat, this time a 3-0 home loss to Sarratt Reserves.

In the Rous Cup, Potten End lost out 4-2 to Pitstone and Ivinghoe, despite goals from Paul Carrington and Dan Simpson.
