Echoes preserve unbeaten record to clinch league title

Echoes, captained by Ben Steele, won 4-2 over FC66 at their Penine Way ground, Grovehill, to make it 13 wins from as many games this term.

Goals came from top scorer Shay Cross, David Sarkodie, Frankie Coughlan and Joel Ratcliffe.

Man of the match was Harvey Patterson.

The Amber have now netted an impressive 93 league goals this season – 31 from Cross – and 119 in all competitions.

Echoes have three league games remaining to try to preserve their perfect record.

And they have a chance to do the league-and-cup double when they face Bedmond Youth in May’s West Herts Junior League cup final at Ashlyns School in Berkhamstead.

The bulk of the group have been together for three seasons and a trio of players – Kieren Creaser, Jordan Porter and Patterson – have played in the same team since they were seven years old with more than 130 appearances between them.

The club have been in existence since 1968 and have teams from under-9 level through to senior level.
