Hemel Town manager Dean Brennan was thrilled by his side’s performance at Concord Rangers on Saturday as they dominated their hosts to register a 3-0 victory.

Jamie Slabber led the way with a brace, before Ben Herd put the icing on the cake with a penalty deep into stoppage time at the end of the game.

And Brennan was understandably delighted by his side’s display as they bounced back from a midweek defeat to Maidstone United to make it four wins from their opening five National League South games of the season.

“It was a fantastic victory – the manner of the performance was excellent and the response from the defeat on Tuesday night was excellent,” said the Tudors boss.

“We could have scored six or seven, and Concord is a very tough place to go – not many sides are going to go there and win so we are delighted with the victory.”

Brennan had spoken before the game about the need to match Concord’s physicality, and he was full of praise for the way the side competed with their hosts.

“Concord were physical as we expected, but we were physical too – we outworked them, matched them in terms of physicality and were excellent in possession.

“We talked at half-time about not killing the game while we were on top, but the boys were excellent in the second half and their game management was excellent.

“Clean sheets is what it’s all about – that’s really the lynchpin to go on and win games of football.

“We’re one of the highest scorers in the league so far this campaign, but it’s the clean sheets that are vital.”

Brennan was also pleased with striker Slabber as he continued his bright start to life at Hemel following his summer move from Bromley.

“Slabs didn’t have his best game outside of the box, but inside the box he could have four goals – he took his two goals very well and was very composed.”

Brennan continued: “You want your strikers scoring goals and I think our two have got five between them now in five games which is a good return.”
