Berkhamsted began their defence of the Premier Division Cup with their biggest win of the season so far – a 5-1 hammering of cup holders Colney Heath.
Max Farrelly opened the scoring in the 15th minute, bundling a loose ball home, and a sublime bending free-kick from Nick Jackson in his first start for Berko put them further ahead 10 minutes into the second half.
Within a minute Heath pulled a goal back with a shot from Carl Osborne, however any hope Colney had of coming back were quickly extinguished as Berko ran in three more goals through Jackson, Frankie Jowle and Aaron Nash-Barker.
Jackson brought a ball down well and unleashed a superb shot from the right past Olive Leslie to restore the two-goal advantage, before George Carbery cut across the penalty area and picked out Jowle to fire home. Nash-Barker completed the scoring five minutes from time.
Berko will be away to the current league leaders Hadley in the next round – a side managed by ex-Spurs player Micky Hazard.
Berko: 1 Tasker; 2 Edwards, 3 Weeks, 4 Baldry, 5 Hawes, 6 Farrelly, 7 Jowle (15 Ward), 8 Carbery, 9 Caines (14 Harnaman), 10 Nash-Barker, 11 Jackson. Subs not used: 16 Trevillion & 17 Gomm.
On Saturday Berko entertain United Counties League side Woodford United in the FA Vase in a game sponsored by C&B Insurance. Kick-off at Broadwater is 3pm.
Ed Canham may be back to make his 100th appearance for the Comrades and Bradley O’Donovan may also be fit to return to the squad. Josh Chamberlain misses the game through suspension.
Berko’s reserve side go to Molesey in the Suburban Cup for a first leg match on Saturday.
