 Tring Corinthians 3

Tring Corinthians bounced back from last week’s County Cup exit to reach the third round of the Anagram Records Trophy with an excellent team performance at Met Police Bushey.

Corries created the first real chance of the match – with Mick Swaysland coming close – and it was the visitors who took the lead after 35 minutes.

Lee Groves released the on-rushing Darren Miles, who delivered a pinpoint cross for Andy Wheeler-King to nod home from three yards out.

And it did not take Corinthians long to double their advantage as they made it 2-0 after 43 minutes – Swaysland heading home powerfully from a precise Wheeler-King cross.

The expectation was that the hosts, sitting proudly at the top of the Herts Senior League table, would push on and try and get an early goal in the second period, but it was Tring who struck again with 59 minutes on the clock.

Swaysland forced an excellent save as he latched onto youngster Lee Groves’ fine cross into the box, and Wheeler-King was on hand to fire home the rebound.

The home side finally began to exert some pressure on the Tring back four as they looked for a way back into the game, but the visiting defence held firm to record a memorable win.
