Corries started the contest brightly, with Andy Humphreys and Luke Byrne providing a constant threat and Dave Whicker and Darren Miles driving the team from midfield.

Humphreys had a shot well saved, while Byrne had an effort hacked off the line as Corries looked to score the goal that their dominance deserved.

Tring eventually took the lead on 27 minutes when Whicker drove the ball home from the edge of the box beyond the despairing dive of the Harpenden keeper.

Corries made changes in the second half and Harpenden came out looking stronger, but Tring’s defensive shape was excellent – meaning their opponents had to resort to pot shots from outside the box.

Tring looked dangerous on the break, with young Stuart Howe excelling once again.

Andy Wheeler King had a goal ruled out and Nathan Horder burst through but fired tamely at the keeper as Corinthians looked to extend their lead.

The second goal never materialised, but Tring held on for the deserved win to continue their unbeaten run under new manager Colin Phillips.

After the game, the Tring Corinthians Reserves went down 5-2 in an entertaining game with Tring Titans.

Corinthians club owner Gary Mendham was very pleased with the large crowd for the day of football and reported very healthy takings from the bar.
