Classy Corinthians get back on track with last-gasp victory

Tring Corinthians bounced back to form with a 3-2 win over Aylesbury United Reserves that was, in reality, more emphatic than the scoreline would suggest.

Tring were on top from the off as Rob Lear had a header cleared off the line and Luke Byrne’s rebound was well saved by the keeper.

Corries deservedly took the lead after 20 minutes; Byrne’s shot was well saved but Andy Wheeler King gobbled up the rebound.

Tring searched for a second, and unbelievably, Lear managed to drive the ball over the bar from six yards out with the goal at his mercy.

More chances were missed and, as so often happens in football, Tring were made to pay as left-back Lee Groves expertly chipped a startled Dave Adamson to score the own goal of the season in the 45th minute.

However, Corries came out in the second half keen to get back on top and Ben Alcock scored a cracker to put them 2-1 ahead.

Mulholland should have seen red for a professional foul but only got a yellow, and Tring thought they had thrown it away on 85 minutes when a pot shot evaded Adamson to level the scores.

But Corries rallied and grabbed the winner on 87 minutes as man of the match Stuart Howe beat his man and set up Byrne to score Tring’s third goal.

There was just time for Adamson to redeem himself with a torso twisting save in the last minute to ensure his side took all three points.
