The cup-tied Jordan Frederick returned to the Berkhamsted line-up, and it was the Comrades who took a first half lead when a misdirected header eluded the home goalkeeper and Frankie Jowle arrived to tap the ball over the line.

Hesham Benmansour equalised for the home team with a shot under Carl Tasker, but Alex Campana hit the winner for Berko with a clinical shot as he got through one-on-one in the second half.

The final score did not reflect Berko’s dominance of the game, but the three points moved them up above Hertford to fourth spot in the SSML Premier Division table.

Berko: Tasker, Edwards, Weeks, Baldry, Ladyman, Mead, Jowle , Hawes, Campana, Frederick, Nash-Barker. Subs not used: Jah and Canham.

Elsewhere, Berko’s reserve side hit the post twice on Saturday and, despite being on top in the first half, eventually went down 3-0 at home to Northwood.

Berko must do without the suspended Carl Tasker for the last three games of the season. They go to Stotfold tomorrow and then entertain Hoddesdon Town at Broadwater on Saturday before concluding with a trip to Sun Sports on Bank Holiday Monday, kick-off 3pm.

Berko’s final two Suburban North games of the season are at North Greenford United on Tuesday and at Camberley Town on Saturday.
