Dacorum clubs celebrate a finals day to remember

Potten End and Tring Bowls Clubs both had something to celebrate at the Watford & District finals day.

Tring's Dave Wass beat Kings Langley bowler Steve Burfield 21-5 to become men's singles champion, and he then went on to win the Officers singles beating Dave Brown of Berkhamsted 21-17.

In the men's triples Peter Routley, David Holloway and Peter Taylor beat a team from Bovingdon 19-16 on a memorable day for the club.

Elsewhere the ladies beat Bushey 21-18 and lost to Waddesden (87-68) and Potten End (92-72) respectively.

The PE trio of Dave Gomm, Stan Durrant and Phil Bunting beat a Garston team to win their final match of the two wood triples.

Graham Floyd won the Champion of Champions event against Paul Element 21-14 while Bob Anderson and Tom Jordon were successful in their pairs final, beating a Garston duo 24-18.

Meanwhile the club made it to the final of the West Herts County League by beating Mill End but lost in the final to Garston by one shot.

This year's George Dean Cup competitions at Hemel Hempstead were won by Peggy Vardy, Molly Prowen, Alex Turnbull and GW Smith.

The ladies beat Chesham at home last Tuesday 72-56, the winning rink going to Cath McConachie, Shiela Pell and Sylvia Inglesby. The men have lost the last three matches.

Kitcheners played Little Gaddesden in a four mixed triples match winning 77-46 on Saturday. Highest triples were John Lane, Chris Ivin and Jan Scattergood.

Jan and Chris continued their winning run by picking up the Alf Bun Trophy on Sunday. Ten Pairs took part with Yvonne Coe and Mavis Janes Runners Up.

Berkhamsted only match this week was a friendly against Waddesden.

Berko won 92-59 with top rink going David Biggerstaff, Margaret Goodwin, Derek Saunders and William Sharpling.
