Put in by Luton on a dreary, overcast day that turned to rain later, Hemel struggled to get their innings going. Despite 30 from Hem Ilangaratne and 23 from Tom Elborn at the top of the batting, it drifted a bit. It took 53 from Adam Scotcher, batting at seven to get the innings back on track as Hemel finished on 157-7 from their 50 overs.

As it turned out Luton had no reply to the Hemel bowlers once they got going. Brett Penny fired in 2-21 and Jack Doodson 2-20 but the maestro himself Nick Hodgins was able to return 5-19 from eight overs as he cleaned out the bottom end of the Luton innings. Sachin Wagh’s 51 for them was the best as they got.

There was a bit of a drubbing for Hemel II as they descended to the foot of Division 2B and St Albans went to the top with three wins out of three games played.

Put in by St Albans no Hemel batsman was able to stay for long with Lewis Hodgins’ 20 being their top score. All the St Albans bowlers picked up wickets as Hemel subsided to 108 all out. There was no riposte in the bowling either as St Albans tapped off the necessary in 20 overs. One run out and one bowled by Charlie Hoskins the best Hemel were able to manage.

There was a narrow defeat for Hemel III against Division 4B table topping Reed II in which Hemel almost pulled off the win, going down by eight runs with three balls to go.

Reed, put in by Hemel, leathered their way to 256-6 from their 50 overs with 93 from their overseas player Martin Johnson being their top score, 2-47 from Adam Moulster the best Hemel bowling return.

The early loss of Lewis Boughton held the Hemel reply but 56 from Saleem Farooqi kept them in the chase. Then Adam Mouster, batting at eight, took on matters smashing an unbeaten 69. The last over came with Hemel requiring 10 to win with the last pair in. Adam Moulster took a single off the first ball then, unfortunately, Jack Boughton was caught half way down the wicket chasing the third ball and was stumped.

Hemel IV succumbed to defeat against Little Berko Sahibs in Division 8B mainly through not scoring enough runs on a fairly solid batting track. Mike Samuels kicked off with 58 at the top of the order, with 31 from Will Stokes and 25* from Dean Breed in the middle, but it required 14 each from Alfie Bordoley and Vinnie Liddar at the foot to get Hemel up to 167.

This was shown as Trevor Allum (50) and Aaron Bowers (68) steered the Little Berko Sahibs innings to 173-5 in 29 overs to win the game, 3-42 from Ross Chapman not enough to hold their horses.
