County champions show future is bright
While Hemel Hempstead Town CC's six adult sides battle it out to survive or achieve promotion, the juniors have shown their is a bright future for the club.
One side have now won the County Cup for the second season in succession and won the Herts section of the ECB-run national cup.
The U13s added to last year's U12 county title by beating Hertford in the 2010 final last weekend.
The boys, who also shared the U11 Cup two years ago, battered Broxbourne by 40 runs in the semi before going on to hammer Hertford in the final latter last Sunday.
In the final Martin Oborne bowled 4 for 2 off two overs to restrict their opponents to 98.
In came the Hemel batsmen, with Matt Dale retiring on 30 and captain Dean Breed hitting the winning runs in the 15th over for 20 not out.
Coach Mike Dale said the boys deserved all the credit, but some different training techniques had helped them to succeed:
"We haven't lost a county match in just over two years," he said.
"We use the same kind of coaching techniques Hemel first team use but just scaled down.
"They have got some quality support but they have worked extremely hard and deserve all the success they have got."
Highlights of the semi against Broxbourne included 30 not out for Matt Dale and Alistair Walters and four wickets, including a hat-trick, for Chris Bauldreay.
