Karate kids from a local club stole the show at the U16s Championships held at Hemel Hempstead School.

There were medals galore for the young fighters from Seishinkai Shotokan Karate International, with Thomas Carson winning the senior competitor of the day and Ethan Hagel taking home the junior competitor of the day award.

Individual gold medals were won by Ethan Hagel (2), Thomas Carson (2), Michael McPherson, Petra Ewington, Emily Blundell and Cameron West.

The Junior Team Kata of Steven Barton, Samantha Gower and Amanda Gower and the Senior Team Kata of Arthi Niranjan, Danny Richards and Thomas Carson also took home the gold.

Silvers went to Olivia Christodoulou (2), Arthi Niranjan (2), Natasha Ogier-Russell, Danny Richards and another two Kata teams.

The juniors of Louis Farrer, Cameron West and Ethan Hagel and the seniors -Petra Ewington, Emily Blundell and Cameron Lennon – also placed second.

Bringing home the bronzes were Natasha Ogier-Russell, Cameron Lennon, Cameron West, Matthew Knibbs, Steven Barton, Leah Groom and Matthew Redford.

The number of black belts at the club has increased recently, with nine youngsters passing exams to move up a grade.

Imran Ullah, Paul Munjic, Leah Groom and Petra Ewington all successfully moved up to First Dan Black Belt, with Thomas Carson, Kaan Yargici, Nicholas Ross-McCall and Anthony Holt moving up to Second Dan.
