Berko pip rivals to Dacorum Shield win
Berkhamsted Bowls Club clinched the Dacorum Shield by beating local rivals Tring on all three rinks.
The men of Eric Browett, Derek Sandford, Alan Parsons and Kevin Clarke, the ladies of Jane Low, Mary Clarke, Anne Furlong and Jackie Cormack and the mixed team of Mike Low, Anne Cutting, Beryl Parsons and Ken Maynard were all victorious.
They won by a total of 78-36, and were also victorious one one of the two friendly rinks.
Tring went down by 54-67 to Dunstable, but beat Kitcheners 68-64.
Kate Jenkyns, Arthur Cutting, Tony Scattergood and Yvonne Coe were Kitcheners' only winning rink.
In the ladies match Tring went down 46-54 to Chesham.
Two of Potten End's matches were abandoned due to the weather.
However they got in a 93-62 win over Abbots Langley on Saturday, top rink Roy Moore, Tom Hanford, Jim Dewart and Tony Howard.
However they lost to Chess Vale on Sunday 75-69, their top rink going to John Lowe, Eileen Pacitti, Alan Howling and Jean Wiseman.
After being beaten by Tring, Kitcheners lost to Cheddington 92-54.
In their weekend mixed triples match against Wing, Hemel Hempstead won 33-29, top rink going to Peggy Vardy, Di Pinnock and Roy Payne.
Last Tuesday they beat Aston Clinton 77-29 in a ladies triples, Joan Fassenfelt, Doris Carrington and Shiela Pell top-scoring.
In a successful week for the club, the ladies beat Linsdale in a triples match on Wednesday 55-50, top rink Edna Fuller Sonia Payne and Lens Emmins.
Last week saw a good match win at Garston for Kings Langley.
Dave Connett, Alan Wragg, Tommy Thompson and Alex Beard led the way with a 24-7 rink win in an overall 57-37 victory.
Alex Beard and Carol and Mick Brown, with four wins, were second place in the Kings Langley Gala triples competition out of 22 trios.
They were beaten by a threesome from Bushey and saw off the Edmonton team into third.
