Tring School pupil Evan Walshe has been called up to the England U16 squad to prepare for the European Championships in August.
Evan, 15, started playing basketball for Bucks Hornets just three years ago and has since represented his county and captained the Southern England Regional Team.
During this time Evan has worked hard with the help of coaches Nigel Townsend and Lee McCarthy.
Evan has also benefitted from the England Basketball Regional Performance Clinics run on a monthly basis. His national call-up came after his performance in a regional tournament held in September.
He is currently training hard and working towards being selected in the final 12 to represent his country in Macedonia in the summer.
With two camps passed he is down to the final 19 and has a GB Basketball positional camp next month.
There is then a final England camp in March before the team of 12 is selected.
Evan said: “I would not have made it to this point without my coaches and my team-mates at Hornets, they have been like a family to me.
“My hope and dream is to pull on that red shirt in Macedonia and I am now working really hard to achieve this.
“I want to say thank you to the folks at Gym Works in Tring and my teachers who are supporting and encouraging me in my desire to play for England.”
