Credible fourth for D&T young athletes

The youngsters of Dacorum and Tring AC found themselves up against some tough opposition in their second Eastern Young Athletes League match of the track and field season.

Stevenage were by far the strongest team on the day winning easily and the hosts Woodford Green in second. They were closely followed by Chelmsford, Dacorum and Tring in a creditable fourth, Braintree fifth, Colchester and Tending sixth and Waveney Valley seventh. This result leaves D&T mid table.

The U13 girls excelled with a field of 17 athletes – easily winning their age group. There was an excellent team spirit and all the girls were very supportive during each other’s events.

There was top three placings for: Zoe Carroll, 100m A 14.2secs, 70m hurdles A 12.38s, high jump B 1.25m; Olivia Edwards, 800 A 2.47.75s; Stella Whitlum, 800 B 2.51.92s; Isabella Painter, 1500m A 5.40.52s; Jess Benveniste, 155 B 5.39.24s; Abbie Parker, 70m hurdles B 13.56s, long jump B 3.77m; Helena van Hullen, high jump A 1.38m; Cailin Waddell, long jump A 3.85m shot A 7.18m; Emma Walker, shot B 5.75,m; Olivia Moore, discus A 13.61m, javelin B 11.75m; Felicity Funnell, discus B 11.47m; Megan Madison, javelin A 13.33m.

The squad also won the 4 x 100m relay.

U15 finished second in their age group with strong performances from: Milly Gall, 1 100m A string 13.28s, 1 long jump A 4.83m, 2 200m 27.67s; Marli Jessop, 1 100m B 12.97s, 1 long jump B 4.48m, 2 75m hurdles B 13.09s; Amelia Woodnick, 1 75m hurdles A 11.75s, 2 high jump A 1.45m; Amelia Cooper, 2 high jump B 1.45m; Jorja Douglas, 2n discus B 19.46m; Daisy Lang, 2 shot B 6.20m.

The U15 girls also won an excellent 4 x 100m relay; the squad of Esme O’Connell, Millie Gall, Amelia Woodnick and Marli Jessop won in a time of 53.01s.

The Under 17 girls had top three placings for: Remi Jessop, 100 A 12.9s, 200m A 27.62s; Olive Coles, 300m A 44.00s – 800m A 2.26.28s; Amy Thurgood, pole vault 2.50m, high jump A 1.58m; Eloise Walker, shot A 10.01m, Javelin A 34.92m; Leah Moh, shot B 9.88, discus B 14.38,m; Natasha Tenty, javelin B 17.00m.

The U13 boys were able to field competitors in most of the days events, with a number of them competing for the first time and filling in in events they have not trained for. They all gave 100% and put in some strong performances.

There were top three positions for: Ethan Ives, 800m B 2.55.23s; Samuel Burnell, 1500m B 5.33.73s, high jump B 1.10m, javelin B 10.87m; Oliver Jay, high jump A 1.25m; Baruch Akwaboah, long jump A 3.89m; Luke Mahoneym long jump B 3.34m; Seth Russell, discus B 10.39m.

Under 15 boys: Luke Burford, 100 A 12.49s, 300m A 40.20s; Samad Ibrahim, 100 B 12.97s; Sean Carroll, 100 B 29.66s, javelin B 22.42m; Thomas Fisher, 300m B 44.36s, high jump B 1.40m, long jumps B 5.23m; Freddie Truman-Williams, 1500m A 5.00.38s; Josiah Barker, 80m hurdles 12.67s, long jump A 5.25m, shot B 9.22m; Ed Hopper, high jump A 1.50m; Oliver Stafford, shot putt A 11.43m, hammer 30.37,m.

U17 boys: Joshua van Heiningen, 1500 A 4.32.58s; Tom Wright, 100m hurdles 17.03s, high jump A 1.80m; Dan Hopper, long jump A 6.29m.

U13s team manager Petra Carroll said “It was another good day for the clubs youngsters, and I would like to say thank you to all the parents who were so supportive and helped to create an encouraging team atmosphere for all and to all the officials and volunteers - without them these matches would not be possible.”
