Sport in Dacorum has been hit hard by the wintry conditions this week, but there is one young sportsman who is more than comfortable when faced with the snow – GB alpine ski racer and Hemel Ski Race Club member Robert Poth.

The teenager has made a blistering start to the 2013 winter ski race season, claiming six gold medals in the six ski championship races he has competed in so far this year.

The race season began for 15-year-old Robert at the end of December when he competed in the Internationaler NICI-Cup giant slalom and a night slalom event in Ellmau, Austria, where he won the U16 age category in both events and the giant Slalom overall.

He then travelled to Les Houches, France, with coaches Mark Vinter and Sally Bartlett to compete in the Anglo-Scottish Alpine Championships and British Ski Academy Grand Prix championships which kick-off the first alpine ski races in the GB race season calendar.

In a highly competitive age group, Robert took part in two slalom races and two giant slalom races over the four-day championship period and comfortably won each race by impressive margins.

In recognition of his emphatic domination of the event, Robert was presented with the Chris Guest Memorial Trophy as the 2013 overall Anglo- Scottish Ski Race champion.

This week, Robert will travel to the Czech Republic to represent Great Britain at the Ski Interkriterium International races and, on the strength of his performance at the Anglo-Scottish Championships, he has also been chosen to represent GB at the Topolino Championships in Italy in March – an event known as the Children’s World Ski Race Championships.

When not training and racing on snow , Robert receives support from the Hertfordshire Talented Athlete Programme with a strength and conditioning programme from Fiona Scott, as well as sports psychology sessions from Sion Thomas.

Proud coach Vinter said: “Rob is on fire at the moment and I hope he keeps this up for the rest of the season.”
