In the final action of the season, Tring Hockey Club contested the finals of two London League Cups, with both the men's Veterans and SuperVeterans teams having made it through to the last round.
The Veterans side had to play St Albans, who had beaten them twice during the normal season.
This time it was different, as Tring played some of the best hockey they have played all season and demolished St Albans by a score of 5 - 0.
The gam
e started with Tring under pressure and early in the game Richard Sharp made a fine clearance off the line to keep the match goalless. The Tring defence repulsed a number of St Albans attacks before the midfield managed to win a short corner that was drag-flicked into the net by Neil Chapman. 1-0 to Tring.
As in previous matches between the sides Gary Arthurs had a running battle with the St Albans centre forward, who was lucky to stay on the pitch after a number of very robust tackles.
Tring managed to make it to half time without conceding and in the second half withstood numerous short corners before a breakaway attack led to Steve Warr doubling Tring's lead. Richard Sharp then missed a penalty flick but Tring were still able to score again, this time a reverse stick shot from Julian Bamford.
The St Albans team were getting more and more frustrated, resulting in two of their players being sent to the sin bin. Just to add to their discomfort, Chris Barnes scored twice to make the final score 5-0 to Tring, winners of the London League Veterans Cup for the first time in their history.
The SuperVets, who had performed brilliantly to beat reigning champions Spencer in the semi final came up against a very strong Richmond side in the final and went down 7-0.
