Hemel Hempstead Town put their cup woes behind them as they smashed six past Stourbridge on Saturday.

Having been knocked out of the FA Cup by Ware last weekend, manager Steve Bateman was hoping for a big performance from his boys.
And that's exactly what he got.

"In terms of the performance we were excellent" said Bateman. "The attitude of the boys was first class.

"We have needed to be more clinical and this went some way towards that.

"We got the ball down and played and by their own admission they were nowhere near us on the day."

Gary Sippetts headed Hemel in front 22 minutes in and though it was soon cancelled out by a James Dyson tap-in, the Tudors ran riot in the second half.

Chris Dillon bagged their second, while a Nathan Bowden-Haase strike was sandwiched by a Paul Edgeworth brace.

Edgeworth missed a spot-kick to take the gloss off a great performance from the skipper, though Adam Martin put the finishing touches on a convincing display with a goal of his own late on.

The Tudors have begun training at Jarman Park every Thursday, with Bateman determined to keep his side banging in the goals as the BGBFL Premier Division season continues.

"This doesn't mean our problems are over," admitted Bateman. "We need to do that over the course of the season.

"I'm hoping our finishing will continue to improve as we work on it more in training."

Hemel were taking on Bashley at Vauxhall Road as The Gazette went to press, and with their Saturday game with Cambridge City also at home Bateman will be expecting performances of a similar vein to that at Stourbridge.

"We have two home games now and we really need to address our home results," he added.

"We have drawn games when we should have put them to bed."
