Paddlers from Hemel Hempstead Canoe Club secured top five finishes at a river race.
John Bennet and Slasher Preston competed in the first round of the Essex winter marathon series on the Stour River in Bishops Stortford.

And in their Veteran K1 class race on November 2, Bennet and Preston finished fifth and third respectively.

Preston was pipped only by Great Britain paddler Mark Adam in second and Tim Middlehurst in first.

Bennet, chairman of Hemel Hempstead Canoe Club, finished in fifth as the fastest over 50 entrant or 'super veteran' in the race.

The club's members are in action next at Herts Young Mariners on November 23.
