A scrum of Tring youngsters battled it out to take on England rugby captain Phil Vickery last Saturday (May 3).
But the young rugby players were only scrambling to get their photos taken with him at Tring Rugby Club's Minis and Juniors awards bbq.

The Wasps and England prop took time to sign autographs and pose for photos with the seven to 17 year olds in the blazing sunshine and hand out the club's annual awards.

One of the winners was 17 year old Will Mitchell, of Tring School, who received the Frank Campbell Award for his services to the Minis and Juniors.

He said: "It was a real suprise Phil was there and he was really good with everyone.

"It was great—he's England captain and there he was giving me this award!"

Chairman of the Minis and Juniors John Harrison added: "We have around 350 playing members and there were about 1000 people there.

"The weather was great and there was a bbq and stuff for the younger kids too, but the main thing was to have Phil there.

"He told us we have a great club with a great atmosphere and that is what Rugby is all about.

"It was fantastic—a very good day for the club."
