Last season was one of the most successful ever for Tring Hockey Club.

The men's first XI were league champions, the men's development side won promotion and the Veteran's team won the London League Cup.

And this year the club, which is based at Tring Cricket Club Pavilion on London Road, is hoping to better last season's achievements.

The men's first team ran away with the MBBO 1st XI league finishing 11 points clear and racking up 80 goals in the process. They begin the new campaign this Saturday at RAF Hilton.

And coach Chris Bentley is confident that his new summer recruits will blend in well with an already successful side.

"I have set the team some hard targets this season," said Bentley. "But I am confident that they will be able to deliver.

"Training is going well and we won all our pre-season games against tough opposition."

The ladies first team will be hoping to improve on their mid-table placing last season - it was their first outing in the league after winning promotion in 2006/7.

They managed to beat every side that finished above them at least once during last term.

In total, the club runs four men's teams in the MBBO League, four ladies teams in the Five Counties League, two veterans teams in the London League and has an ever expanding junior section which now boasts over 150 youngsters.

This swelling of the club's juniors means that for the first time Tring will be able to to run a ladies development side this year.

Chairman Patrick Barr said: "We are looking forward to another exciting season at Tring Hockey Club, building on the success of our senior teams last season.

"With the success of our Olympic hockey teams Tring HC is well placed to take advantage of the renewed interest in hockey. Our coaches are ready for an influx of new members, young and old, male and female."

If you are interested in joining up call the club captain Tom Elliott on 07875 344408, turn up at the clubhouse on a Saturday or log on to www.tringhockeyclub.org.
