A wonder-goal from David Parkinson and a ferocious Lachlan Cahill free kick saw Levy Green through to the next round of the FA Vase.
In an entertaining game at Cow Lane the two SSML Division One sides battled it out for a spot in the next round.
It was not the goal-fest that both sides would have been expecting considering the teams' defensive records, but there could and should have been more goals according to Green boss Micky Vipond.
"To be honest 2-0 flattered them a bit," said Vipond.
"They had a chance cleared off the line but apart from that they didn't cause us too many problems. We should have scored four or five at least."
It was Green who found their feet first in the wet and windy weather and ran the show for the first 45 against a depleted Tring team.
Parkinson was unlucky not to put them ahead when his fiercely-struck volley hit the inside of the post and James Armstrong was inches away but his shot flew wide.
Chris Salmon came closest for Tring during the one-sided first half when he headed over on 41 minutes.
Both sides went close in the early minutes of the second half. Mark Welling had a header cleared off the line and a shot saved by Clark, either side of a chance for Tring when Graham Hall's free kick was deflected onto his own bar by Steve Boad.
Green continued to have the better of the chances, and on 72 minutes Parkinson's magnificent solo effort gave them a deserved lead.
Picking up the ball on the half way line, he danced through the Tring defence before firing emphatically past Clark.
Tring had their best chance of the game a minute later when Andy Mullins had his cross-come-shot cleared off the line by Boad.
Milner was called into action again to keep out a Dave Foskett shot with a world-class one-handed save, and showed quick reflexes to twice deny Mullins.
While it looked as though the game might go down to the wire Lachlan Cahill had other ideas. When Armstrong was fouled just outside the box he stepped up to smash the ball through the wall and past Clark to seal their place in the next round.
"The most pleasing thing was keeping a clean sheet," said Vipond afterwards. "Next stop Wembley!"
Tring manager Phil Casserley was disappointed to crash out of the cup so early, especially after exiting the FA Cup last weekend.
"It's been a bad week," said Casserley. "But I maintain that I have a stronger squad than last year and once we get everyone fit we will be a force to be reckoned with.
"I'm not taking anything away from Levy Green - they deserved to win. Good luck to them in the next round.".
Green travel to Crawley Green in the next round in two weeks time. They were facing Kings Langley in the Challenge Trophy as the Gazette went to press, while Tring play Bedford Reserves in the cup tonight.
This Saturday Green are away at Langford in the league while Tring entertain Harefield United.
