Leverstock Green finished their 2007/8 campaign flying against Oxhey Jets as they notched up their fifth win on the trot.
In a surprisingly lively end-of-the-season game, it was only a goal from Green goal-machine James Armstrong that separated the sides in Saturday's match at Pancake Lane.
Steve Flain came to Green's rescue early on when he cleared off the line fol
lowing a Tim O' Mara header.
And the home side's first decent chance came 17 minutes in when Armstrong had his shot turned round the post following a good interchange of passes with Frankie Jowle.
Jets' Keeper Dean Layton proved a thorn in the side for Green in the first half, as he went on to deny Anthony Page, Matt Wardle and then Louis West.
Early in the second half it was Green keeper Carl Tasker's turn to be a hero, as he kept out a vicious Chris Killer effort.
The save proved vital as the game's only goal was scored four minutes later, as Armstrong notched up his 25 strike of the season in all competitions.
Kenny Hull clipped the ball forward from the halfway line into the path of Armstrong, and the striker showed superb strength to out-muscle his marker and smash the ball home.
The visitors missed a good chance only minutes later with the goal at their mercy, but it was Green who dominated proceedings in the last third of the game, with Armstrong coming close to doubling his tally a number of times, and Allan Arthur being denied by Layton.
Armstrong's 99th goal for the club sealed the win for Leverstock, but the team's hard work was nearly undone when a doddering Mark Welling was robbed of the ball by the corner flag, but fortunately the resulting cross was put over the bar by Louis Putnam.
The win means Green finish the season in seventh place in the table, level on points with Langford.
