Micky Vipond has hailed his side's defensive record despite Levy Green taking their tally to an incredible 14 goals in two games on Saturday.

Having hammered Holmer Green away from home last Tuesday, Green hosted Kentish Town and made them look 'ordinary' according to the Levy boss.

But it was another clean sheet which most impressed him.

"I expected it to be a difficult game -
they were third in the table before we played them," he said. "But we played really well and were three up at half time. We made them look quite ordinary.

"The clean sheet pleases me as much as scoring six - I never get carried away with scoring a lot of goals. The place we work from is defending properly."

Although the team put in a 'good all round performance' according to Vipond, James Armstrong was the star of the day.

He simultaneously doubled his number of league goals for the campaign and became the club's top-scorer with four strikes against Town.

Ben Hammond also struck to take his tally to three in the last three matches, while Aussie Lachlan Cahill bagged his second since joining the club in the close season.

"Jim works so hard for the team," added Vipond. "He keeps lugging away and deserves his goals. He is really enjoying his football this year and is getting his reward."

The win took Green up to sixth in the league, three points off top spot but with a game in hand.

They are level on points with both Kentish Town and Tring, but have a better goal difference than their neighbours.

Last night Green took on MSSML Division One side Kings Langley in the first round of the League Challenge Trophy, with Vipond expected to name a similar side to the one that trounced Kentish Town.

But with the FA Vase game with Northampton Spencer this Saturday, Vipond knows which is more important.

"Out of this week's games the Challenge Trophy is the least important," he admitted. "But the players want to win games and I'm no different.

"Kings Langley are a good side but if we carry on the way we have been playing then I'm confident we'll win."

Keep your eye on these pages to see how Green and Langley got on.
