A freak goal in the eighth minute of stoppage time gave Leverstock Green a deserved point against their big rivals.
Vinnie Iannone had put the visitors ahead 35 minutes in but Gary Connolly's first goal for the club - a cross-come-shot which somehow found the net – meant it was even at the end.
The referee, who incurred the wrath of Athletic manager Casserley a
t the end, found reason to book half the outfield players on show during a feisty but not fiery game.
In the torrential rain Green peppered the visitors' goal early on.
Dale Sears and Lewis Pritchard missed a hat-trick of chances between them
Tring then took the lead with 10 minutes to go before the break.
A mix-up at the back ended with the ball finding its way to Vinnie Iannone, the forward calmly steering the ball past Kevin Marsh.
This spurred Tring on and they finished the half the stronger.
Henry Thomas headed wide before Iannone missed a golden chance when put through by Danny Gray.
Pritchard saw a shot cleared off the line for the second time in the game having side-stepped keeper Mike Underwood a minute into the second half. He then fired wide four minutes later.
Daniel Griggs and Pritchard missed for Green while Tring's dominant stand-in skipper Chris Salmon's shot was tipped over by Marsh.
Connolly, Jack Johnson and Lee Johnson all came on as Heath threw caution to the wind, while Casserley withdrew Iannone as he looked to keep it tight at the back.
The in-demand former Green man Mark Burfoot could and should have won it with a minute of normal time left, but the big man managed to miss from a yard out.
Ashley Addison chose to fire at goal with the clock running down and it was from the resulting goal kick that Green equalised.
A throw-in found its way to Connolly who launched a cross which somehow found its way over Underwood.
The result pushed Green up to ninth while Tring slipped to third.
Phil Casserley said: "On the balance of play it was probably a fair result. They (Green] had more possession but never really looked like creating anything.
"But they kept going and I give them credit for that."
Heath said: "If we had conceded that late on I would have been absolutely choked. But I think we deserved it."
Tring were at home to Berkhamsted in the semi final of the St Mary's Cup as The Gazette went to press and entertain Kingsbury London Tigers on Saturday.
Green are at Hertford this Saturday and entertain Stevenage in the Herts Senior Cup on Tuesday.
