HEMEL Hempstead Town Ladies manager Neil Townsend has heaped praise on his players after they secured a momentous double on Sunday.
The Tudors comprehensively saw off a previously undefeated Flamingoes side in the Russell Cup final— a match billed as the battle for the Division 2 Super Cup—as Greater London Division Two North champions Hemel took on the Southern champions in Feltham.
Neil, who now bids farewell to the team said: "It was a terrific performance from the girls. The win was never in doubt.
"They have been together since under 10s level and they have really progressed through the years. They are a quality side and they have played excellent football this season."
Sunday's game couldn't have started better for Hemel, as Natasha McConville put them one up within four minutes.
The Northern Ireland under 17 international cut in from the right and unleashed an unstoppable 25 yard shot which flew into the roof of the net past the helpless Flamingoes keeper.
It's goals that like that which have earned her a transfer to Fulham Ladies for next season.
Hemel had to wait only two minutes to double their advantage, as a floated ball from Hannah Masters evaded the entire Flamingoes defence and found the waiting Natalie Adams, who made no mistake from close range.
After going close through Nashina Mohamed's header it was left to Adams to add her second and Hemel's third when she tucked the ball home from 12 yards, following a defence-splitting through ball from Natalie Cole.
McConville then added her second shortly before the break with a brilliant individual effort, as she tricked her way into the penalty area and fired home.
Flamingoes did manage to claw back a consolation just before the half time whistle, taking the score to 4-1.
Hemel started the second period brightly, but spurned a host of chances before Flamingoes scored again.
But the Tudors' response was instant. Straight after the restart McConville showed lightening speed and vision to out-pace the opposition back four and provide the perfect cross for Mohamed to tap home, putting Hemel hearts at ease.
The score stayed at 5-2 until the final minutes of the game when a quickfire double took the Tudors' tally to seven, as Adams completed her hat-trick and Mohamed added another to complete a sweet victory.
Following his side's triumph, Neil was understandably elated. He said: "I arrived at the club at the beginning of the season and my aim was to get up to Division One which we have done.
"But we have also won a cup final and got into the semi final of another cup. It's not been a bad season really!"
And with Neil leaving and many of the girls now heading off to university, what does he think the future holds for the young side?
"It's the end of an era" he said. "But they definitely have a bright future ahead. The ball is already in motion to find new players."
