Comets Sports Club 2 Boars Head 1
First division underdogs, Comets, faced the team at the top of the premier division in the Berkhamsted Sunday League Steve Norwood Challenge Cup final, played in warm and humid conditions.

From the kick off, both sides sought to attack but during the first half both defences were on top. The deadlock was broken when Scott Walters of Boars Head took advantage of a loose ball to drive a shot home.

Comets came out for the second half with greater determination and took the game to their opponents. After 70 minutes Aaron Lewis controlled a through ball and calmly slid the ball past the advancing Boars Head goalkeeper to equalise.

Comets then pressed for a winner. As extra time looked likely, Alex McCarthy won a free kick for Comets some 25 yards out. Chris Marsh took charge of the kick and hit a swerving shot over the wall and into the top corner of the goal to win the cup.

The Challenge Cup was presented by Ken Norwood, father of Steve in whose memory the competition is played.
