Crews from Hemel Hempstead Canoe Club will follow in the footsteps of Sir Ranulph Fiennes by taking on 'the Everst of paddling.'
The club boasts four entries in this years Devizes Westminster Canoe Race (DW) – a 125 mile ultra-marathon starting on Easter Saturday.

Three of the crews - Shirine Voller and Al Farrance, Robin Oakley and Chris Collison, Chris Preston and Tom Fryer - are in C2's - lightweight racing canoes paddled with a single blade from a low seated position.

The other pair - Max Hayden and David Richardson - are competing in the more popular K2 class.

The Hemel squad have been preparing hard for the physical and mental test to come, taking part in eight recent major build races (totalling 150 miles).

To see how they get on this weekend log on to hemeltoday and see next week's Gazette.
