Only three years ago Berkhamsted Cricket Club had no Colts sides whatsoever.
But last Thursday the clubhouse was packed with young players and their parents celebrating another successful season at the club's awards night.
The under 14s won their league whilst remaining unbeaten, and its under 12s and under 10s were runne
rs up in their leagues with two junior teams reaching county finals, both narrowly losing.
Mark Lewarne, Colts manager, said: "It's wonderful to see so many children enjoying their cricket and our ethos is to make sure that as many children get the chance to play as possible.
"The strength and depth of our squads has meant that our teams can now compete with the best sides in the county.
"We owe a big thank you to the parents who take on the role of team managers, our coaches led by Mark Herring and especially our groundsman, Ian Putman, who has prepared all those wickets."
This season the 12 junior teams clocked up 114 competitive matches with over 220 boys and girls taking part.
There were 87 coaching sessions totalling over 150 hours of training.
The awards evening contained a few surprises, with the colts and their parents giving the team managers their own awards.
Team manager Mark Lewarne received a two-minute standing ovation when he was named clubman of the year, with club chairman Julian Dent describing his job in the last year as 'unbelievable'.
The club, which has been awarded the Clubmark standard, runs one or more teams for every age from under 9 through to under 15. All its coaches are ECB-qualified.
