After three and a half years, Tring Martial Arts has its first black belt student.
At a recent grading assessment, Daphne Wright, who has been with the club since the first lesson back in July 2005, was awarded the rank of Black Belt 1st Dan.

"I'm absolutely thrilled," said Daphne at the presentation. "I shall wear my new belt with pride."

The 36-year-old was one of 49 kickboxers, young and old, who were graded and presented with awards for their hard work.

"The quality and hard work shown on the day is a testament to our students dedication to their training and the club," said chief examiner Chris Allen.

"They all performed superbly and I was very pleased with their performances. It's always pleasing to me that we produce high quality students and their marks on the day proved this."

Other top achievers on the day included Fiona Troon, 31, and Ilona Errington 18, who both were awarded double grades - both given the rank of white and yellow belt.

As well as teaching kickboxing, the club specialises in Tai-Chi and Krav Maga (self defence). There are 80 students who regulalry attend, the classes, which take place on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
