FAMILIES supported by charity Home-Start have described them as a lifeline in times of stress.

The charity offers support, friendship and practical help to families with children under five.

Its volunteers visit families struggling under the pressures of bringing up small children, helping them to avoid crisis and enjoy family life.

They are good listeners, reliable and respectful and in 2007 gave more than 10,000 hours of their time to the community, making them perfect candidates for People's Pride.

Their manager, Lara Parker, said: "They change lives and never ask for anything in return.

"Frankly they make Dacorum a better place to be and all of the staff here take our hats off to them."
