Woman charged with defrauding pensioner

A 52-year-old woman has been charged with fraud by false representation following an incident in Berkhamsted.

Debby Christou, of Old Mill Gardens, Berkhamsted was charged on Tuesday, August 18 after it was alleged a woman in her mid-70s was targeted by someone claiming they required money on a loan basis.

After the woman made several withdrawals of cash from her bank between February and August this year, the bank staff became suspicious and alerted the police.

Christou appeared at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, August 19, and was remanded in custody.

She is next due to appear at St Albans Crown Court on September 2.
